Hi all,

I am in the process of swapping out all my American cichlids for my marine fish. I did have a 6x2x2 American cichlid tank, but sold a few fish, then bought a temporary 5ft tank for the rest of them to go in, then sold that tank and replaced it with a 6ft reef :hyper:

We have now sold almost all the American cichlids, so are left with a Para Pleco and a few Polypterus. Now, we are considering keeping the Polypterus as I am not giving them away as I have almost nearly done my American cichlids, in the 5ft tank (until outgrown) and getting some African cichlids to go with them.

I know the Polypterus are African, and we have very hard water here (hardest you can get) so the African cichlids should like our water a lot.

Because the polypterus are fairly large, they would eat baby Mbuna, so we can raise juveniles in a smaller tank we have until they are big enough to join the Polys.

I am wondering, before going any further with research, whether it is OK to keep Polys with Mbuna? I am particularly taken with the Alunocara species.

Thanks
