Mbuna Stocking For 55Gl.

Well that is a lot of fish to name. Literally tons of viable combinations.
Everyone is going to have there own favorites so I would suggest maybe looking at some of these tank stocking ideas I dont agree with all of the combinations listed but I also would never say they wont work.
And while your there read over the treasure trove of information on keeping Cichlids :good: cichlidrecipe lots of useful info there to reference at your leisure.
Mbuna are great fish!! Nice choice

Check cichlidforum.com They have a nice amount information there on species traits and compatibility. I have found that this forum- TFF - has a ton to offer in the way of experienced keepers and they have kept just about every possible stocking. Yellow Labs seem to go with just about any other Mbuna. I myself am in the process of figuring stocking for my 55gal(US) and have gotten a lot of help here. Good luck.

Thanks
Steve

I agree with yanks15. take a look at the species list on cichlid-forum and find 2 others that you like. Your tank you would want 3 species, 1 males/4-5 females, for a total of 12-15 fish. Try to avoid any of the super aggressive species. Here's a link to the profiles, you can also look around in the other sections, lots of good information there.

I have a 75g Mbuna tank. I haven't got experience with a wide variety of Mbuna but what I have in my tank is 9 Yellow Labs, 7 Blue Zebras (pseudotropheus cobalt blue) and 8 Haplochromis Sp.35 Tomatoes. The only area where I have aggression issue is within my Blue Zebras. The domanant male zebra beats up a little on the other blues. They leave the yellow labs and the haps alone. A lot of people will tell you that you cannot keep haps and mbuna together. I haven't had a problem. But know that its not ideal and unless you have back-up plans for them in cases of extreme aggression, I personally wouldn't do it (i have spare tanks and what not)

Another thing that a lot of people have the best of luck with. Add many fish at once. If you add them in pair or singly, the new guy will almost always get singled out and bullied. It also helps to get them as youngins. All of my malawis were really young when I put them in a tank together.

Best of luck to you, I hope what little bit I can provide is helpful. And pics when the tank is up :)

Like I said, plenty of people here that can give real-life experiences. Nothing can replace this type of information. Thanks DM :good:
