I have a yellow top blue afra who was the victim of bullying in my tank. Eventually I removed him to his own tank where he has been on his own for the last 3 months. He has fully recovered from the bullying, fins repaired, put weight on & is in very good condition. However, he is very skittish, to the point he hides if anyone is in the room.

I'm wondering if the reason for this behaviour is that he feels vulnerable, being on his own. Would I be better trying to introduce him to a friends Mbuna set-up or his likely to get another kicking?

Any advice gratefully received.

Mick

yes. try adding more of the same species in but at a smaller size so that he does not feel threatened or vulnerable. and i'm sure some company will bring him a bit of confidence and so that he is o longer lonely. :good: they tend to mix well with medium sized non-agressive catfish and other chichlids that arent very agressive.

The thing you have to think of now is, if you add him to your friends setup he/she is going to have to add at least a group of 4 to 6 to spread the aggression. So that your fish isn't singled out again and attacked. What size is your current tank and what species do you have?

Hi, thanks for the input.

"Stumpy" is currently in my 100 litre "hospital" tank. My main set up was sold about two months ago but Stumpy was in no state to go with the rest of them & stayed with us. As a result he's the only chiclid in the house now.
