This, I can help you with. "sick-lid"

My takes on the others :p:
Boon-a
Ken-yi
hee hee ... I thought it might be something that sounds like "chicklet"   Isnt that a kind of bubble gum?

gotta love those silent "m's" too

According to the Cichlid book(s) I've purchased, it's Uhm-Boo-Na. As for Cichlids, obviously, it's SICK-lid. (Before I really knew what they were, I used to have the hardest time with that one...I'd always manage saying See-Hi-Lids...LMFAO)

The way it is pronounced is what becca said

UM-BOO-NA. No silent letters in this one.

If there's an M at the beginning, then I think that you put a U sound at the beginning.

Mbu - Umboo
Mbuna - UmBooNa

While we're on the subject, why don't we talk about the way you spelled pronunciation :p .

Edit: KenYee

Also keep in mind latin pronounciation has nothing to do with it, mbuna is of a local African dialect meaning 'rock dweller'.
