i have N. venustus they are at 4cm, and i think they have had a majour blout problem for along time, they look realy fat on the upper bottom, is this how this fish grows? or has it got mbuna blout? and if so will i just not feed them? or are they no good?

Perhaps theres a language barrier but let me make a few corrections first.
It's bloat not blout, which could be confused with clout (fish medicine)
second, Nimbochromis venustus are Haplochromines not Mbuna.
you said "upper bottom"..... uhh -_- which is it? lol

unless you feeding straight blood worms 3 times a day, basicly gut loading them I dont see how you're going to bloat them as Haps require protiens along with veggies in their diets unlike most mbuna which require veggies only.
also you mentioned they've looked like this "for a long time" ...bloat would have killed them by now.

how often do you feed and WHAT are you feeding?
how many do you have and what size tank are they in?

:good: catfish pic!!!

okay thanks, they are in a 4 foot tanks/160liters and there is 30 of them at 4cm i feed them once daily sometimes flake, pellets, its here upper body that looks fat! so do Nimbochromis venustus look like they have bloat when they are growing at this size?

Do they just look fat, or are the scales actually pineconed out? If they truly have bloat they'll stop eating and become very lethargic. Do you have any pictures?

Also, fry/young juveniles should be fed small amounts several times a day for the best growth. If they are looking very fat for a couple of hours after feeding, they could just be stuffing themselves.

While I doubt they have bloat (as Waterbender pointed out if they have been showing the full symptoms of bloat for "a long time" they'd be dead by now), here's an article on bloat is to compare to your fish. And, while it's true mbuna are the most likely to get Malawi Bloat, other cichlids can get it as well.

What are your water statistics? and what is your maintenance regime? what is the make and model of the filter that you use? what do use for aeration? How long was this tank running before you added the occupants or did you add all 30 Nimbochromis venustus at the same time?

Sorry for all the question but it will help us help you,

Denis

 they do not look right at all!!
you sure you didnt get some hybrid crap they stuck a label on instead of the real thing???
they look more like platys then Nimbos

my tank statistics are always correct as i do i regular water change1s every week, and i also have alot of different african fish in the same tank and there is nothing wrong with them!!! and i added all 30 at the same time and i have had them for around 1 month now! and the tanks has been running for over 2 years on a 1500 canister filter and the tank size is 300liters!

So i am thinking to put them in the bin since someone has sold me realy stuffed up fish@

Above you have mentioned that your tank is 160lt and it has now doubled to 300lts, Which is it? Out of interest how many four foot tanks do you have in your possession?

Are these fish in the same tank with the stocking list (below) that you gave in one of your other posts?

2 Cyphotilapia Frontosa 5cm
2 Melanochromis Auratus 1 male/1 female 5cm
5 electric yellows, Labs 4cm
2 electric blues 1 male/1 female 4cm
2 Labeotropheus Fuelleborni 1 male/1 female 4 cm
1 Otopharynx Sulphur Crest 5cm
4 Venustus 2cm

Regarding you water parameter, is there any way you could please check them. Although you do regular water changes this does not automatically mean that your "water statistics are always correct". Ammonia spikes and high nitrite and nitrate levels have snuck up on me before and I am religious about my water changes.

sorry its a 160litre tank, i have 7 4 foot tanks, i get them mixed up becuase i have small and large 4 footers

and no they are old fish from the forum!

i brought these fish looking fat and put them in to a tank already setup with over 20 small africans and there is nothing wrong with any of my other fish at all, not for months and months! , so my water would be fine!
