Hi friends!
My stepson has a tank at his mom's house and she let him go pick out some new fish. Here's what he's got going on:
Tank size: 46 gal
Tank already had the following in it: Yoyo Loach and a rainbow shark.
Then he went today and bought the following: a clown knife fish, 2 jack dempseys, a seemingly very pregnant Kribensis, and 3 snails.
Some plants in the tank.

He did a big water change with NO water conditioner and added aquarium salt.
I already see big issues with the tank mates- different needs and different temperaments... what would you suggest to make the tank more compatible?
He says he will rehome the knife fish when/if it starts to get too big.

He needs to rehome basically everything.

The best question before proceeding though is what are the water parameters at that house, and then does he want an aggressive tank, semi-aggressive or community?

The shark, Krib and a Dempsey died. The loach was eaten by the knife fish I believe he said. I've offered to test his water with my kits and he's not taken me up on it. he's not done a water change even after the death in the tank. It's kind of a hopeless situation

Wow!

Poor fishies :(

Definitely looking like a hopeless situation, keep trying though but I don't hold out much hope on this guy changing his pattern.

Perhaps you could suggest he to keep pet rocks instead of fish....
