DO I really need a Protein Skimmer on a 45usgal (175L) FOWLR? What is the main purpose of a PS.

Is it safe to use Nutrafin Cycle? Picked some up at LFS yesterday (not my work) and the guy working said it was safe. This is a quote from the bottle.. "Immediately establishes safe biological aquarium environment, Powerful responsive ammonia and Nitrite elimination, Allows for Immediate introduction of fish, Safe for fresh and saltwater use."

ALSO, I am having a blond moment, but if my Hydrometer reads below the green area, do I need to add more salt, or add more water to dilute it a bit? I am forgetful

Cycle could be used but in your system with liverock the process recomended yesterday will still be best..if it cycles with stock in there it could turn into a costly risk to take...this works as an accelerator and contains bacteria in suspension

Aim for an sg of 1.026 and you'll be fine..

If it is below the green are you need to add more salt. Don't worry about blonde moments, I have a lot of them.

As Buddy says for the cycle product, nt worth it IMO.

oooh, fogot, yer skimmer.....
Adding a skimmer will cut a lot of dissolved nutrients directly out of your water...they are not essential but will cut the amount of water changes you will have to do to maintain good stats drastically...a worth while investment i'd say
