I've got a HMA filter turning up over the next day or so and am hooking it up to my new tank so it is constantly running into my tank and changing the water through an overflow in the sump.
Is there a maximum to the water i can change? this hma filter can produce water from 1000litres a day up to just shy of 6k litres a day. it'll be on a 1000litre ish tank. Would changing the water once or twice everyday do any harm? I know some may see it as overkill but i call it peace of mine that the water is top notch!

Regards
Ben

Hi Ben,

im not 100% on this but if changing the water too much the filtr wont be doing any work in effect as the ammonia etc will be removed by the water changes not giving the filter anything to feed on. like i said im not 100% sure on this but wouldnt want you to harm your filter in any way...

The filter would still work as long as there is water there for it to pump. And you'd still need it since you'll need the water turnover it provides, unless you change 100% of the water every 10 minutes...

Another thing to think about though is you may want an extra heater or 2. All that fresh water coming in will cool the tank.

i have a couple of spare heater to go with the two i have , hopefully shouldnt have too many issues with heat as its in a hot room :)

yeah i know that the filter will still be working, but what i meant is that if too many big water changes are done daily then they will be removing the ammonia instead of the filters bacteria colony and therefor i didnt know if the filter would reduce the bacteria colony as there is no source of ammonia to feed it. but i guess if you were to do this constantly then it wouldnt matter...
