Another member on here very kindly donated some of his mature media to me and I got it home and installed within 2 1/2 hours.

Does anyone know when im likely to see the effects of the bacteria on it as he give me some fish at the same time and im a bit worried for them as the tank wasn't cycled

The media has been in about 24hrs now.

Should I being doing water changes?

tested it before i left this morning

amm: 1
Nitrite: 3
Nitrate: 30
ph: 8.0

The reading are the same as before the media went in as I was in the middle of cycling it, when the matured filter was offered to me.

Have you got a test kit? That would be a good way to see if the water is ok or not

I would do frequent 20%-30% water changes to try and help the fish through the cycle. What fish were you given? Good phrase given to me by a friend "the solution to pollution is dilution".

Ok Thanks, I just wanted to get an idea of how quickly the water quality would stabilize with the introduction of matured media. I wasn't expecting it to happen over night, but would do it fairly quickly!

I now have about 10-15 endlers in there and a tiny leopard cory
