I've been slowly setting up a 65 litre community tank, and making my fair share of mistakes along the way. I've got three more additions I intend to make-guppies and a dwarf gourami trio (1M 2F) and an otto possibly, for algae purposes. I admit, I did do an in fish cycle-I had no choice in the matter, I had to rescue some WCCM's from a coldwater tank as they were getting eaten by their goldfish tank mates. That was about a month ago, and so far the WCCM's are fine, and some danio's have been added and settled in nicely.

I've been doing some reading up around the subject of dwarves and decided on 1 male to 2 females. The question I have is over tank maturity. I've seen a couple of places mention that a tank should be mature before adding dwarves due to their inherent weakness.

How long should I wait before I consider the tank mature? I'm in no rush, but would like to know how long before I can safely add the dwarves with a minimum of stress.

I've read as much as I can (and will come back to it later when I get more time) but I didn't see any mention of timescales. I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of a tank maturing (for a number of reasons, some scientific and some not) but theres no indication in there of when a tank is considered mature.

If theres no set scale, could people share their experiences of adding gourami's to a new-ish tank-how new it was, and how they got on?

How old is the tank, it may be already mature

The general consensus seems to be that a tank is mature after about 6 months.
my tank is 120l and has been running for about 2 months, i added a pair of pearl gouramis yesterday they seem happy enough i will keep you posted as to their progress while i am in no way an experienced aquarist ( this is only my 1st tank) i will share my experiences of this species with you as it is gained and hopefully you can do the same too. i chose pearl gourami as i read they are 1 of the hardiest of the gourami and also 1 of the more attractive.
