Ok a very random question,
Do fish mate for pleasure or is it a natural instinct, i was thinking about this (sounds wrong) and you have fish like guppys that try to mate with everything so do you think they are doing it cos they enjoy it,...
Is there any proof,

Rich

I believe - and this is strictly based on info Ive heard in the news, magazines ect. That fish only mate b/c of natural instinct. Very few species mate because they enjoy it lol. I do know however that dolphins mate cuz they like it! Just my 2 cents!

Every species on the planets natural instinct is to reproduce and for some species it is their one purpose to make sure their genes carry on to the next generation. This is especially apparent in the male Guppies who try to spread as much 'seed' as possible as an instinct, which in turn gives it a lot higher chance of being represented in the next generation.

Look at Salmon as an example, they do a near impossible trip to lay their eggs.

only humans and dolphins mate for pleasure

i personally dont enjoy it , i just do it cuz gf wants it...its more of a job for me than anyhting else

While we on the subject of frisky fishes I never got a reply to my query re a beautiful friendship between a red rainbow and a parrot .....

They dancing round each other ( not aggressivly) and tail sniffing... Is this a) normal and/or B) even possible...

How come relations between parrot fish and rainbows is such a thread stopper  Sorry richchappy.... ok they will never be mentioned again  still curious though....

I have also heard that dogs enjoy it too...might just be a myth though...one for mythbusters???

greg :D

Borrowing from someone's statement in this forum to a suggestion for mythbusters: Unless it involves said dogs exploding, they probably won't do it.
