Hi guys, just wondering if matchsticks are safe for our fishes? (of course without the head) :shifty:

i am planning to create miniatures using matchstick and put it in the tank.

I would have thought they were safe, it just depends whether the wood is treated with anything. You could ask the makers of your matches if they treat the wood, I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

I don't know what that means, but if it involves gluing a whole bunch of sticks together, you should research the glue you intend use.

i will be using an aquarium safe silicon.

how about popsicle sticks? are they safe?

you'd be better with little sticks that you know havent been treated - i'm not sure wether the wood in matches have any treatment on it
lollypop sticks are larger but should be ok as would chop sticks

EDIT didnt mean chop sticks --- cant remember the name of the sticks i mean - thanks three-fingers for giving the brain a nudge :)

Arent chopstick treated with bleaches? I'd be careful and test them out on something before suing them.

NOT chopsticks lmao (remembered what chop sticks are now) --- you have to excuse my brain lol i was meaning the little sticks you use for poking in cheese - bugger what they called , they got 2 sharp ends but you could easily round the ends offf

please put my MS brain out of its misery - you know the sausages on sticks at family parties - the sticks you use for that thing

toothpicks :P

cocktail sticks ---- and also bamboo skewers might be another idea ------ ok i phoned my mum in the end

what kind of minitures??? wont it look random??

oh and i think you will come up with one more problem.....

they will float.

It would be cheaper to just buy miniatures. Cheaper as in, they won't float. They are aquarium safe. They won't take hours of time to build. Your won't need to buy aquarium safe silicon. THey will be colorful. And they won't have sharp edges that may, inadverntly hurt your fish.
