Just purchased a Maroon Clownfish. Can't get him to eat. Cycled a 125 gallon tank w 150 lbs of cured LR. Tried Mysis shrimp and brine shrimp (The frozen type). No other fish in the aquarium. Yesterday he was swimming around the walls of the aquarium. After spending last night wout lighting, today he seems to be in a nice hiding spot among the rocks. Again tried feeding him and nothing. Any recs? Someone said putting the food in garlic? Store bought stuff? Also have megamarine, mega marine angel and krill (All frozen cubes).

If you have just bought it then it is probably stressed as swimming up the glass is also suggesting. Never used garlic before however a number of people do swear by it to encourage feeding. If you look at your local fish shop they normally with have it in solution; you can then dip and serve. Just give him/her lots of hiding spots and after a few days they normally settle in. Try feeding at regular times like once in the morning and once again at night. Also if you want another maroon clown now is the time to introduce it or you will miss the boat. Just make sure it is of a similar size.

Hope this helps

Regards

It's pretty big. About 5 inches already. Would love a pair. We'll see. She has a cool hiding place. Hopefully she'll come out soon.

Sounds like stress, tr giving it some live bin shrimp. That usually gets clowns to start feeding and calm down

Bought the frozen Mysis and Brine shrimp. Mix it w water, then "sprinkle" in the general area the fish resides. What else could I do? They are pretty small. Do they make bigger mysis or Brine shrimp? What size would you recommend for a full grown Clownfish?

Day three and still not eating. Added Krill and no luck. She/Hes hiding under a rock. It's difficult to get food near it. How long can it go wout eating? Retested my water and its fine (0ppm Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate, pH 8.3, Temp 78 degrees). The fish doesn't appear sick, no spots etc..). Fearful that if I just keep randomly adding food wout a plan it'll just pollute the tank.... Please advise! Flake food? What type?

Most good marine shops will yeah. t mine they are 30P for a little bag. I emptied the bag into a container that i could squirt a little bit out at a time. Squirt a little bit near the fish and see if it eats it. If it does give it a bit more. I did this a few times a day, then slowly replaced it with froen foods and flake.

Bineshrimp is quite low in nutritional value so the quicker you can get it onto something else the better. Just all clowns i have seen gobble up live BS.

The live bine will also be quite high in phosphates, or at least the water they come in is. Maybe an idea to makde sure you have some phos remover in while you try this

You've side bine shrimp. Is that Brine shrimp? Sorry, really new to this. Thanks for the advice. Will try it when I get home this morning!

yes sorry. One of those i always type wrong. like when i mean to put the i end up with teh a lot.

Live brine shrimp

Out of curiosity, was the fish eating at the shop? And if so, what did they feed it?
