Marine Sand In A Freshwater Tank?

I've seen both inert sand and aragonite labeled as "marine sand". Both would be safe, but the latter raises PH.

Even with a Ph buffer you're Ph would still rise due to the sand, unless your adding the buffer daily, which would be costly. Most fish can adapt to higher Ph levels, but if you plan to keep things such as African Cichlids then a higher Ph is benificial as it mimics their natural enviorment.
