Marine Lfs Review

Hi AGAIN!

Right.. This post is again, for the resource centre and the plan is to review your local LFS's so that we can get an idea of where's good. I drive around yesterday going to all my marine stockists and I'm bored of having only one good LFS! I'm sure there will be another one close by!

Would you guys mind putting your opinions down for this too!! Please!! And thank you!!

Comments:Good over all.

FISH:
Stock availability: Not bad but only get the same in every 2 weeks and they order in.
Stock variety : Poor week after week they just order the same fish again and again.
Conditions : Most of the time the fish are healthy but the tangs have white spot sometimes and the clowns occupationally have brook.
Price: high

CORAL/INVERTS
Stock availability: Always have alot of shrimp and hermits and order in as well
Stock variety : average
Conditions : Have a old tank at the back with rarely anything different from brown soft corals.
Price: low - high

Comments: Great service, always friendly, remember you and your tank setup etc if a regular. Can order pretty much anything you want or need.

FISH:
Stock availability: Great Stock, get regular 10grand orders in
Stock variety : good - I went in with my fish list and they had 90% of those fish in for me to look at
Conditions : Excellent, seen them RO dip and seen their huge QT out the back
Copper treated water? unsure
Price: Reasonable but you pay for the QT they provide and the excellent quality of fish

CORAL/INVERTS
Stock availability: Ridiculous amounts! I get lost in coral
Stock variety : great
Conditions : Not bought any yet but look healthy
Price: about right for decent corals

Comments: My best, and favourite LFS. Would definately recommend. Very honest and nice bloke who runs it. Various stock in most things. Exceptionally good on his coral and inverts.

FISH:
Stock availability: VERY good. Has most common fish and also stocks rarer ones too. Orders in what you want.
Stock variety : Good
Conditions : Fish appear very happy, water seems clean and tanks are clear. Does not use copper treated water.
Price: medium

CORAL/INVERTS
Stock availability: Fantastic amount of stock. This is where this shop really excels for me. Loads of unusual and colourful corals and unusual inverts. Again they order in.
Stock variety : VERY VERY GOOD
Conditions : Corals are usually very healthy. Occasionally there are some poor health corals but he makes you aware before you buy. Very bright and colourful corals.
Price: low-medium price - very fair dependant on coral. An example would be the trumpet coral sold for £40 for 17+ heads.

Any other comments:
Would 100% recommend, worth a trip down on a Friday when he is fully stocked.

good idea lewis. but i was just wondering whether its ok for us to put stuff up about a particular lfs, especially if it is a derogatory comment i.e if i were to say joe blogs aquatics is awful lots of dead fish in display tanks, shocking customer service etc etc would we be leaving ourselves and the forum open to legal action. obviously any lfs is going to love it if we said they were brill of course. just a thought
also maybe a section on online dealers would also help

I know there are probems with people slating stores to a great extent (P@H being the main target) so it might be worth double checking before we put bad reviews, but maybe if we just do reccommended shops?

P@H near me are actually pretty good.

tbh i would rather know the bad stores weez, so just good reviews defeats the object imo

Hello everybody. It's now time for me to put on my mod hat.

The mod team at TFF is currently discussing the ramifications (legal & otherwise) of adopting a section devoted to reviews of products and possibly lfs. If you can withold your enthusiasm and not continue this topic for a spell, I will be more than happy to keep you posted on the progress of this discussion. It's a debate like everything else and above all, we want to make sure that our wonderful forum is protected while still serving our members.

Thanks for your cooperation. I'll leave this open to commentary for a wee bit, but then I'll close the topic. Again, you've done nothing wrong, want to reiterate this, but we are having a discussion on this subject and I don't think anybody should take any action until the mod team comes to a consensus.
