Marina Style

Hi everyone,bit of help if you can,fairly new to the hobby and I,ve just bought myself a Marina style 95ltr tank,moving up from a fluval edge which I was given as a xmas present,anyway if anyone has experience of the marina style what do tou think of them,Two questions I want to ask firstly will I need a pump and an airstone or will the filter aerate enough,and secondly I was hoping to use a dark sand probably black,how much will I need and is black readily available?

Hey mate,

I have one of the Marina Style tanks as-well. Actually just bought another one to setup and cycle for may.

I think there awesome tanks. Good lighting comes with it, and the bulbs are readily available on the internet.

You will not need an airstone as such, As aeration is done via water movement on the surface (Waves) not bubbles. So the filter will easily make sure there is enough oxygen in the tank. An airstone however...

1. Looks nice.
2. Is great for the fish, mine like to play in them.

So thats an optional addition. But no it not needed. as like i say the water movement is what adds oxygen to a tank not bubbles.

Im not sure how much sand you will need mate to be honest, as i don't have the 95ltr one. You can get Black sand from all over the place. Internet or ebay would be the easiest. Other than that just ask your LFS to order you some in.

Just make sure you wash it properly and make sure you do a fish-less cycle first before adding any fish too the tank, this will take around a month.
