I'm guessing they aren't in the UK since their local time differs from yours by 9 hours...Japan would be my wager.

Then they are breaking the law seeing as the naturally occurring and diminishing marimo balls in Japan are under 'special protection status'!!!!

When I had my marimo balls, they were fished out of the p-poro lake (close to lake Akan) which is a privately owned lake used for fishing. Breaking the law? maybe, maybe not. Lake Akan we can not fish in or collect marimo. But many many people fish in lake p-poro, and many come from all aroung Japan collecting marimo from this lake.
 
I have three large ones placed close together and my kuhli loaches enjoy swimming around and under them. I will have had mine for two years in January. They are still a lovely dark green and still round even though my tank is not particularly well lit and I do nothing special to care for them.

I'm very happy with them. :)
