My setup includes some dead mangrove (much like bogwood), that protrudes above the waterline. A friend who did the same said the bits of her mangrove that were above the waterline rotted. Is this common? And if it does rot is it a problem?

Thanks
Josh

If it was going to rot in high humidity i would have thought it would have rotted in water too.
But it appears not - my friends' is still black and rotted above the water line, but she can leave it like that because her tank is so big. Unlike mine that is less than half the size of hers and there is a lot more mangrove above the water line (its a turtle tank).

I just want to know - if it does rot will it be a major problem or pose a threat to the turtles?

Wood that is wet and exposed to the air will decay much faster than wood that is under water. Underwater, the air doesn't get at it to allow it to rot away.
