Wow, these past few weeks have been horrible. All but one of my female bettas has caught dropsy. Luckly, it's my surving MGPK. But even my one isolated from all the others caught dropsy. They sadly died, I had nothing I could do. It litterally just happened over night, every night until one was left. Than Gerard just dropped for reason unknown, perfect water stats and everything. Than, my little shrimpy Mars, died tonight. I knew he wouldn't do good since a few months ago, his spine got crooked and he never even grew a millimeter. So, I'm all messed up, and just about ready to give up on my bettas... but I'm going to find out what happened, and fix that problem.

Sorry about all those deaths :( RIP bettas

Its hard to loose bettas especially all at once. Don't give up but maybe take a month to make sure everything is sterilized and clean and free of bacteria and make sure your current bettas stays healthy :D

Good luck :)

Aw, sorry to hear that. :rip:

It's so frustrating when you don't know what is making them sick, I hope you find out what it is. Do you feed live or frozen food?

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry! :( They never seem to go one at a time, but instead in twos or more. When it rains, it pours. :(

:( So sorry to read about your little fishes. Hugs for you. It could have happened to any of us, so chin up and be kind to yourself you are only human we can just do our best. :*

I feel your pain :( . Hopefully you will find out what the cause was so you'll know what to look out for next time :)

:-( :rip:

Lots of chocolate, a warm fire, soft comforter, and a sad weepy movie for you.

Then a day or two of steralizing every thing.

I feed them forzen, as my parents won't let me keep live foods.

Thank you for all the sympathy, everyone.

I think it is worse than dropsy. I think your fish had Tuberculosis. Dropsy can't be spread from fish to fish. The reason your other fish got it is because lets say you got some of the water on your hand when you took the dead fish out. Well lets say you used the same hand to put the fish food in the other tank. Fish Tuberculosis is highly contagious. You need to put a small amount of Epson Salt into your bettas tank and it may take some of the pressure off of him. The only way to get rid off it is to bleach all of the fishes stuff or when you put another fish in he will get it also. You need to rinse the stuff very good or the bleach will kill the fish you put in. Sorry for you loss.

Oh ok, just wondering if you could have gotten a dodgy batch of live food or such.

Hope this was just a once off, you look after your fish very well and don't deserve to lose them.

Uhh, I think I might be dealing with the same thing. I lost one of my bettas to dropsy in a divided tank a couple of weeks ago, and another one began losing weight. Then two days ago one suddenly came down with dropsy and died overnight, and when I found him dead the one that had been losing weight had died as well. I didn't know what to do for the ones that had dropsy other than ensure the water was sparkling clean because as I understand water quality is usually the cause for that. So I have not medicated at all. The thing is, I have a 55 gallon community tank and I've been suspecting that TB has taken one of my gouramis (lost weight and spine became bent so badly I enventually euthanized her) and another one of them is losing weight as well. She is in quarantine and her tank is right near the betta tank where I have had the losses. There is a good chance I could have made the mistake of contaminating the bettas. So now what? I understand what to do with the tank once the fish have died, but what do you do with the living ones that probably have it as well? Should I move my gourami into the divided tank with the bettas and let them live out their lives? I don't really like the idea of having two quarantine tanks in my foyer. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tammy

A frequent change in water conditions is what causes TB. Like if you dont clean your tank for 2 months and then totally take it down then that is what will cause TB. So the Clean water is what does it. Like going from Dirty water straight to crystal clean water. I would keep all of the fish with the same symptoms in the same tank. If most of your fish are sick then use your 55 gallon tank for a hospital tank. The best way to treat any illness is to use salt that does not contain Iodide and raise the temperature to 82-83 degrees F.
