Males And Their Nests

Is it possible for a male to create a successful bubble nest if the surface of the water is large and fairly fast moving, Or will the bubbles simply pop?

I've heard that cup halves make a good holders for bubble nests. What cups should these be made from? Where could I get them? Do I have to have any precautions, sharp edges etc?

What age do male bettas stop making these nests, Or don't they stop?


Any advice is welcome.

They may attempt to build a nest in flowing water but the bubbles would just disperse anyway. The cups are the polystyrene ones cut down, thats all, but what reason would you want to try it in a flowing tank? I'm just curious?

The current 60l tank it is in now is a teporary solution for my betta until I can get it's tank in the sunlight around the house. So he will only be in lightly flowing water for a few weeks at best.
What I find strange is the betta has only just started making the bubble nest now it is in a tank with other fish (2 kuhli loach). I, myself was curious as to whether I could see if he could make a bubble nest without the flow - as I don't plan to turn the filter off The best plan for me would be to use a cup as you suggested.
