Hi,

Does anyone know where I could be guarenteed male red cherries in the UK?

I recently bought a second batch that once again proved to be all female. Apparently this is because the less colourful males are removed by the importers because they wont sell due to the lack of colour.

My first batch was from Trimar, the second was a well used seller from ebay.

Kind regards,

Andy

I got my red cherrys from Cheshire Waterlife, i got the impression that they stocked both male and female.
I personaly wouldnt know how to tell other than by thier color, and thats hard in a shop ( they may have just shed ).

I dont know how you would get some being so far up north.

I may be able to ship you some in the future as I have loads of males.

They are still pretty red to be fair, but are thinner and more transparent.. i am suprised places do not ship them so much.

I am a bit worried about shipping livestock as i dont want any to die.. any pointers??

Put them in a small water volume in a plastic bag, and then put this in a tuppaware. Wrap it in newspaper and cover with brown parcel paper.

If the wather is cold, shove a heatpack in there.

Do i get some free shrimp for telling you this? :shifty:

when i got mine off ebay i asked for both sex, the seller said most people just want females for the colour so thats what he would usually send. Mine seem to have slowed down breeding since some bee shrimp were added to the tank.

Emma :)

I would love a male or two as well, mine haven't bred yet and I wonder if I have all females.

Shame you did post this a week earlier - I have loads of cherries and I'm sure we could have arranged to meet up on your way home on Sunday to give you some.

Gotta say though, even if you've only 1 male, it will probably do the job sooner or later. I found the biggest difference occurred after I started feeding them JBL novo prawn - not only did their colour change dramatically, it wasn't long before I started seeing berried females.
