I've had a male red wag platy for about 4 or 5 months, when I first got him, he was very interested in breeding. I had a bad ick outbreak in my tank and that wiped out all the females, so he was on his own for about 2 months with 2 male mollies. Now that I have one pregnant female platy in the tank(messed up and thought the male one I got was a female at the store, will be getting more females in a few weeks) he's showing absolutely 0 interest in them. He's eating fine, is still a bit playful with the other fish, but he's showing more interest in the airstone than breeding. Water parameters are fine and it's only 6 fish in a 30 gallon tank. Is this possibly normal platy behavior or is something wrong?

Good question. I have the same situation but my tank is pretty stocked. Water parameters are well in range but the male platy, swordtail, and sail fin seem to have no interest in breeding. I'd like to hear some ideas...

I'm having a similar problem with my guppy. He just doesn't seem to recognize the fact that there are girls in the tank! PS- bowties are cool. As are fezzes.

try playing a little barry white and light a candle. just kidding but hmmm, i know the temperment of each male is different, maybe with age they slow down on the breeding, kinda like human and other animals.
