Hey guys, anyone help me shed some light on this?
Had my 2 Pearls for nearly a year now - 1 male, 1 female. My sister just called me into the front room because he was floating upside down, I pushed him around so he was around the right way and he took a breath, However after about 5 minutes of not moving, and hardly breathing - his gills were moving, but you really had to concentrate to detect any movement I decided to put him out of his misery.
His eyes were very dark in the tank as he was dieing, and apart from that there were no other signs he was sick. Always active, ate well, no missing scales or anything like that etc Any ideas what went wrong?
Tank spec;
125Ltr, fully established (fishless cycled), external and internal filters - running for just over a year.
tank mates are 4 zebra danios, 6 sterbai cory, 10 scissortail rasboras and the female Pearl
He was semi agressive during feeding, but apart from that, co-existed peacefully 99% of the time with the other fish.
They are not over-fed.
20% water changes every week
Just tested the water - 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, 40 Nitrate, 7.4 PH. Nitrate has always been 40ppm, so there were no sudden chemistry changes.
Last water change was 5 days ago, so there were no temp changes either.
The only thing I can think of is maybe old age? He was fully matured when I got him a year(ish) ago.
anyone?
