Hey everyone! :) I am new to these forums and am looking for some help. I am thinking about breeding rainbows. Well right now I have a turquoise rainbow fish and I  have been reading through a lot of websites about how to tell the gender of rainbows and I am pretty sure my turquoise is a male but I am wrong a lot of the time and would like a second opinion please :) I attached the pictures of my rainbow below :)

Never had any rainbow fish so can't advise, but that second picture is great, firefly!

Probably females as their bodies are slender

It's difficult to sex turquoise rainbows when they're young. When they're fully mature it's much easier because the males flash and also develop deeper bodies. One popular method for sexing them is to check if the first dorsal fin overlaps the second. If it does, then it's likely to be male, if not then probably female.

Thanks Mamashack!! :)   And thank you everyone for your replies. I looked at the first dorsal fin and it does appear to overlap the second one just a tiny bit. So I am guessing it's a male. That's probably why my male boesemani rainbow is showing off his colors. He wants to be the alpha male I am guessing. I was hoping the turquoise was a female since males seem to be easier to find. Looks like I will have to go find a female turquoise!
