hi
after losing my pretty betta- i’m wondering if male or females are hardier. i’m sure i’m to blame for his death, but does it matter where you bought your betta?
mine came from Petco. i had to look through those horribly small plastic cups to find a healthy one in my price range. saw some dead ones. :( Petco is the only pet store for 3 hours in all directions. can anyone recommend a good seller? thanks.

Sorry for your loss...

Neither gender is necessarily more hardy than the other.

The place you buy it from does matter for the health of your Betta. PetCo/PetSmart usually gets their Bettas from over crowed dealers, which have bad genetics. (Usually from breeding improperly or to often)

You can always order online, but that can get expensive with shipping. Or put an ad out for a local breeder.

i agree. it’s very sad seeing those fish in tiny cups?

Perhaps check with local shops in Missouri, see if they have any betta in stock. I haven't purchased a fish on ebay, but I know there are various bedding websites for fish. I think one of them is called aquabid? If you do find one on ebay, look for customer reviews and check on shipping price.

I’m sure someone on here has before... it seems to be the more popular way these days.

hi thanks for the info. i did see aquabid. i don’t think i want to bid- because i can’t spend too much. the ebay fish you get the fish you see in their page. they are expensive plus shipping. LiveAquaria has lower prices, but you can’t pick out a specific fish. ?‍♀️i’ll keep checking.

the ebay ads show the actual fish you will get which is a plus. kinda pricey for me. once i get vaccinated i can go out shopping for a betta. ?

I have gotten many off of eBay. Currently I have 2 from Petco and 2 from online. My Petco ones are 2.5 years old and 2 years old. My online ones are both 2 years old. All healthy. The last 2 that died came online. It’s hit and miss both ways. Unless you want a certain type of betta, I say go to Petco and save one. I stay clear of PetSmart for fish. Check out Mo Mo Betta. I have had several from them but not cheap.
