is it normal for male guppys to flair their tails and dorsal fins to females and twitch really fast as this has caused a tail of one of my males to split

males will display to females, sometimes it does lead to split fins, just add some antibacterial meds to avoid any infection and it should heal

What he's doing is trying to show the females that he's the best fish to breed with, This dose not cause splitting fins, that's usually a poor water sign so also think about doing some water changes.

AGREE!!! also it could be that you have some fin nippers in there, unless you have just guppies then apology given.
