I have a 29 gallon community tank. This question only regards the guppies in the tank.
I have 3 adult males, and 5 fry which are basically adults now (I only call them fry because they were born in my tank).
I Misjudged their genders. I was under the impression all the fry were females so I'd have a 3:5 male to female ratio.
It turns out that only 3 are female, so i'm rocking a 5:3 male to female ratio. I know the females will become stressed over time and possibly develop sicknesses.
I have a good amount of plants, hiding spots/caves, and other fish in my tank so will this help to curb aggression and chasing?
I don't feel comfortable getting more than 2 more females because my tank is stocked to the brim if not slightly overstocked.
Would It be better to get a 5:5 male to female ratio or is that no better than the 5:3 and will the fish be terribly overstressed in either scenario?

Sooner or later you will have to find a new home for some guppies.  Those males & females are going to start inbreeding and making more and more babies.  If you're already fully stocked do you really want them breeding any more?

If yes then 3:3 would be better, losing two males.
If no then I'd look at separating those males and females and perhaps only keeping the 5 males.

None of the fish I have are "related". the 3 males were bought after the 5 fry were born. I don't think inbreeding would be a problem.

Okay replace 'inbreeding' with 'breeding' :)  Do you really want them to breed, if so what will you do with the babies?

Yeah, I'm prepared for them to breed. I was breeding about 2 months back and a guy on craigslist really liked my females so I sold them and the batch of fry.
The reason i asked the question is because I figured they'd be less stressed if 5 guys had 5 girls to chase. Do you think my plants and other tankmates will serve as "distractions"?

My male platies are rather good at flushing females out of their hiding spots, but yes plants and hiding places will definitely help reduce stress.  I'd still aim for a 1:1 ratio, but just IMO I wouldn't add more if you are already overstocked.
