Male Dwarf Gourami

Ive just noticed that my male gourami has backed it self up in to a corner under my bogwood in my tank and it's acting very defensive any one know what hes up to or is it that time of the month?

Need alot more info on size of tank in gallons, plus how many fish and which type, water tests in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate, and ph, does he look bloated, are scales sticking out like a pinecone, what does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
