Hi all,

I have not been on this forum in quite some time (A good thing as my fish have been healthy), then suddenly 2 weeks ago I noticed my male dwarf gourami looked like he had got his fins caught somewhere as they were ripped. Two small sections were gon on his top row of fins, one right by his tail. He also had what looked like a scrape down one side.

I had presumed he got himself wedged somewhere, like in the wood, and had damaged himself wriggling free. I dosed the tank with some anti-internal bacteria meds and all seemed well. He has never lost his appitite and is acting as normal. In the past week though he has had these white "erruptions" coming from the scraped area on his side. It looks like a spot that has exploded. The thing is that these white "things" sometimes dissappear overnight, stay away for the day, but then there is another one!

I had run out of anti-internal bacteria, and read that malechite-green in my anti-white spot med is also a good anti-fungal so I have dosed for that too, but nothing seems to make a difference.

The "spots" are occuring only 1 at a time in the "scraped" area, and dont seem to affect him. Should I be worried? What should I do? What is it?

EDIT: Looking at the photo its much clearer, are they abcesses?

i have no idea, i havent seen this before in my time, you could try ringing up a pet store but they may tell you to kill him. I will look into it for you.

Actually, white spot probably wont do anything unless it says white lump on it, watch it over the next few days to see if it settles down, is it possible he may have a hernia?

I don't think it is a hernia, it is something associated to him having injured himself. If you open up the image full size you will see he seems to have rubbed his scales off!

I just want to know if it is the "healing process" or if I should be worried, he is not rubbing or flicking, and is otherwise behaving normally. I also want to know if there is anything I can buy to speed up the healing ...

I wouldn't worry too much (not yet anyway!). Just keep your water in tip top condition and see how he goes.

They should do yes.

aaah, just seen picture, my other pc wouldnt let me view it. Doesnt look all to bad really, might it be protective slime if it's that clear?

Not sure if there is any clear slime, but there are these white "pimples" that keep forming, then I guess dropping off, because sometime they are gone (I have never seen them fall).

In the picture you can see one in the top left of the scale-less patch. It looks kinda like an ulcer that humans get in the mouth. They seem to form and then go away.

I just want to make sure that I am not leaving him to die when I could be treating it ...
