Gouramis are very prone to bacterial infections, and i would say he has one, when they lay to one side and are at the top of the tank, then he will eventually lay on the gravel to one side, you could try a bacterial med, but he sounds to far gone.
If he's still eating could also try some shelled peas.

Hi Wilder,

he's not eaten since I got him! tried flake, tetra pro, peas and live food! he ate nothing all week, the female (from same tank) is very active and eats great.

he's at the top because he is laying on the filter itself, otherwise I think he would be laying on the bottom!

i suppose it's just a matter of time, all the other fish look fine and very active. I have healthy drarf gouramis in another tank, should I move the famale into that? so it's will be 2 females instead of 1? (1 male there already)

thanks

Definatly don't move the fish into another tank with fish in it right now. You don't want to risk spreading the infection farther. I agree it sounds like a bacterial infection, and it probably is too late. Because he has never eaten wiht you, he probably was sick when you brought him home. If you have a hospital tank to isolate him in, you could do that.

Bless him not sounding to good, if you don't have a hospital tank, you could use a tupperware container or an icecream box and float it on top of the tank, sorry.

hi, don't have hospital tank :(

forgive my lack of knowledge, is placing him in another container to ensure he is left by other fish? is it to ease his passing?

thanks

Goodluck, although it really isn't sounding good.
i've put him in a large plastic bowl, floating on top, he moved VERY quick when I tried to net him, but started rolling over again, I moved him, I suppose all i can do is keep an eye on him. :-(

Just some daily water changes, good luck.

Thank you both for your assistance. I will change water daily until Friday (off to Boston for a week, so up to my better half to feed etc). Hopefully everything will be ok whilst i am away, in all tanks!

thanks again - i'll update you!
