i have a male and female blue ram, but recently he has become aggressive.
not major aggressive but chases other fish away if they get too close to him, i have also noticed he shows his colours and fins to the female but she just swims away.

is there a reason for this as i though they are meant to be calm?

thank you

He might be going into spawning condition and is trying to win fair lady rams heart.
Rams can get very angry during spawning.

Rams aren't calm by community standards. They are territorial like any cichlids. Your male is trying to get the female to mate with him. If he does they will both start chasing fish away from their territory. The good news is that rams are probably never going to injure or kill another fish, whereas some other cichlids will eradicate a whole tank of life. This is one of the most interesting things about watching cichlids though:)

sorry for the late reply. ive been watching them closely and they mainly stay tgether now, chasing the other fish hve droped alot and their colours are stunning

They've formed a pair! If you're treating them real good, they may breed! Congrats! :)
