My male betta is just not normal, and I can't find any visible signs of problems.

Over the past few months, he has not been swimming around much. He likes a place in the top of the tank (I suspect for air), in a corner. If I tap the tank, he will move in most cases, but he doesn't in attempts where I guess he doesn't think anything of. Occasionally he will swim a bit.

He has been losing his appetite over the past few days. He used to eat many bloodworms, and he now eats just a few. He has no problems swimming when he does swim, so it's not constipation.

In a few months, he will be 2 years old with me. I'm not sure how long the LFS had him.

Does this sound like he's just getting old and doesn't want to do much anymore, or does it sound like something more serious where I should go to my LFS and get something?

Thanks!

Hello,
Could be old age. Is his water warm? The bettas I have who have health probs, like swim bladder, and another who has fused fins seem to like warmer water. If he is eating I shouldnt worry, both mine eat. I often think the one with fused fins is dead and then he scurries to front of tank and looks at me. But he does eat well.

Keep the thread at the top of the list and hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to advise you. :good:

I use regular tap water on cold level (it usually goes down quick enough) with Jungle Bowl Buddies. But I will try warmer water soon. I don't want to stress him out too much with constant water changes.

I've got some Bettafix, Maracyn, and Maracyn-Two here. I may try Bettafix, as I don't think it can hurt if there are no problems unless I overdose (whch I wouldn't).

Thanks!
