Hi

Ive had a quick look and can't find anything on here.

My new 17 ltr tank for specialy for my male Betta is now ready to populate.

I have 2 Red Platy that I think would compliment his blue colour nicely.

Just wanna check that they are ok as tankmates before i put them together.

Thanks

Chris

yes platys are fine with bettas as far as i know, each betta is a law unto themselves and some are more tollerant that others, but there should be nothing to upset him, unless he is just a grumpy old git. di :good:

17 litres is barely big enough for one male betta, IMO. They need space to swim, their own terriatory, lots of plants to hide in and their own cave, as well as filter and gravel. That doesn't leave much space for tank mates.

Platys are not huge, but they are not tiny fish either. Better tank mates would be some large snails and/or some shrimp (if the betta doesn't try to eat them).

The betta and platys might get on OK in a big enough tank but tbh, your's isn't.

I kept Red Wag Platies with my Betta and they got along great :D Well, sometimes he would get into "a mood" and chase away everyone. Most days it was fine.
But it depends on the Betta's personality.
