I was sold a a pair of Veil Tail angel fish that had been together and spawned a couple of times at the LFS according to the staff its not a big chain, store and they have always been honest with me in the past. They just had a a new batch of eggs a week or so ago.

I took them home and placed them into a nice 35 gallon high set out for breeding of course the tank has been cycled, alder cones used to reduce PH and provide the natural colouring of the Amazon River,

The Male seemed to want to tank over the tank on his own and seemed to reject the Female within a few minutes as soon as he bashed her I removed her , but by this time the Female had been hit hard and was swimming around in circles and later died. They where the only two fish in the tank at the time. I had observed tem together at the shop in the LFS a few times.

Could the stress of being moved forced out extra aggression. The tank is a 35 Gallon high ?

I have heard that an odd number is better with Angels,

The Male is swimming around quite happy, looking every bit like he is gonna own the tank.

Any ideas what brought out this sudden outburst of aggression ?

could it be stress of moving them or could he have just decided to reject his mate seeing he had a much bigger tank to roam about in than the tank in the LFS..

INTRODUCING  NEW ANGELS.
I have heard that if I introduce  more angel fish then I should do it with odd numbers.

Also read its best to add smaller fish, than the BOSS Angel, so he sees them as no threat !?
he is a full grown adult, could he be simply too dominant to add any new fish too.

Help in how to go from here and a new female fr them to pair would be most welcome please.

it's always difficult with cichlids to work out the why's and where-fore's as to what goes wrong but as you've seen, when it goes wrong it often goes very wrong.

I have a pair myself that were bought as babies along with another 2. It turned out I had 3 females and a male. The pair I was hoping for a pairing with did indeed pair off and she laid her first batch of eggs in my main tank and he did his job - most were fertile. She stayed with the eggs for two days and he guarded the area, circling the perimeters. I decided to move them to a tank on their own after they left the eggs unattended on the third day and the eggs got eaten. After I moved them the male decided to just ignore the female. She laid eggs and instead of fertilzing them, he ate them instead. After several attempt I decided to move them back to the main tank but one of the 'spare' females decided they wern't coming back in and she attempted to murder them both. I had to re-home her along with the other spare.
I'm now left with a 'pair' of angels. My female wants to spawn but he's not interested but he still wants her as his female. They still lip-lock and tail slap and still follow each other around like they are love sick but he's just not interested in spawning. Like you, I don't know why this is. I can't work out what the problem is. They seem so solid as a couple. I've just decided to enjoy them as they are.

In your case though it went even more wrong. Why he decided to kill his mate we may never know. In terms of introducing him to another female - well you could try adding several young angels to his tank, although I would do it when you are around all day and I would be ready to remove them if he decides murder is an option again. The best option though would be for me to point you in the direction of the experts on breeding angels and that means an alternate forum. Google will be your friend as I'm not allowed to post the address but if you type in uk angelfish forum they should pop up.

Hope that helps :)
