Hi, I'm new here but I'm wondering is it true that its rare but possible that male and female betta's can get along together? I have a 10 gallon with a separator and I have a male and female together on each side. They've been like that for 5 months now and I've had no problems, they swim together and they seem to like each other. There has never been any fights what so ever

They mean a male and female in one side, and a male and female in the other.

Seperate them NOW. PLEASE!!!!!!

i suppose it is possible to have those rarest of bettas that get on with each other. but i think you'll soon find that it was not a good idea. while all's fine and dandy now, you might wake up tomorrow to find a different story. id prefer to err on the side of caution and get a bigger tank and have a sororiy (and that way you get to have more girlies). always start with 4 or more girls to sort out agression. easily done in a ten gal. you could have 6 ish in there.
do what's best for the fish. separate the females!
cheers

There are lots of fish species in the group called Betta. The Betta splendens, the ones they call fighters in the UK, are known to not get along well at all when 2 or more fish are together and at least one of them is male. Lots of other Betta species do not have any serious problems having the sexes mixed and several of those others also do fine when there are multiple males together. When it comes to splendens, Loraxchick has the right answer, but it strikes me that you would have known long ago if you had mixed Betta splendens because you would have been on here long ago looking for help.
