Malawi Mbuna flicking

Is there any reason why my mbuna flick on the sand, they dont do it all the time but quite often.

This is very common for many cichlids, and is generally nothing to worry about. If they are really doing so excessively it could indicate an external parasitic problem, but chances are it's not.
