Malawi Cichlid Tank

I posted pics of my tank before but now ive got fish to go with it i thought id post again.

This is a full tank shot

and i could do with most of the fish IDing!

ive got the ones listed in my sig but i cant remember what the guy in the shop called the rest. He gave me all the scientific names.

i thought this was a blue zebra but shes lacking any stripes.

The dark green fish in this pic has great camo! always takes my eyes a while to find him.

this is him again, not a great pic but you can really see his green tint.

I got 2 of these next fish and they were sooo much lighter blue when i got them and in the LFS tank. they really coloured up after a few hours here.

if i wave my hand infornt of the tank they all come and see what it is. they all move really fast tho too so its hard to get a deent pic of them all. this is the best one...

Great tank and lovely looking fish!

For Malawi Cichlids, do they have to be in "species" only tanks? Or can you mix them into community tanks?

they require a higher ph of around 8.0 and are quite aggresive little things so yea you have to keep them in a species tank.


your tank looks great but they also like lots of hiding places and you have a more open look (same as my community tank) so i dont think they would be too happy.


you could get some kribs.

really kewl looking fish IMO and suitable for communitys i think.

Nice tank sam it coming along nicely.
You have seen my tank and i was also goin to experiment with a few plants to add some colour into my tank. Can you recomend any.
BTW i know its not best to keep them in cichlids tanks but just fo a while while my fish are small.

Oh and BTW that fish we I.D as Melanochromis Cyaneorhabdos not long ago im starting to have second thoughts about in one pic he has yellow stripes???

im not sure what these plants are called but they havent been touched and to stop them being dug up, i jus put some small bits of rock round the bottom of them.

ill get a pic of one and see if anyone can ID it.


as for the fish.

he changes colour every hour lol.

never really yellow tho so i think that must be reflection.

any idea on any of the others?

REALLY need to wash them. the plecs never cleaned them after my algae outbreak when setting up.
