My mum has a PF4 internal filter and has recently found an otto and a Guppy in it. She also has a lot of livebearers in there and will have shrimp soon and doesn't want them to get sucked up!
Is there any way we can make a guard that will keep even tiny fish out but not clog up really easily?

Thanks

Try getting a large cube/cylinder of coarse filter media from the pond section at the LFS. Cut down into the middle a recess halfway through just smaller than the size of your filter. Then push the filter into it. Once in place you can trim it down a tad (using electic carving knife?)

I don't know if you can see in my signiture I have done that to the intake of my small tank. The media is a food trap too so the smaller fish can peck at it rather than going into the filter. Just remember to remove and squeeze out in old tank water (there be extra bacteria in there to preserve!) each time you water change
