Hi all,
Planning ahead for a water change at the weekend, and I have a query. My cold water supply into my house goes through a carbon filter. Can I use this directly in my tank without adding dechlorinator?.
Cheers,
Swanny

I'm pretty sure that carbon does not remove chlorine/chloromine. It would be best to still add dechlorinater :)

Actually, chlorine/chloramine is one of the few things that carbon does remove.

Actually it does work. I use a carbon filter in my faucet and it dechlorinates. No stinky smell of chlorine!

Agreed, activated carbon is actually very effective at removing chlorine. It won't, however, do a very good job at removing heavy metals or minerals.

HMA filters are generally used to top up direct (or not quite direct) from the tap.

There are a few bigger tank journals lying around with mains autotopup.
