i hate putting my hand into the water to clean the glass, and the scraper with the long pole is not working well with the bowl face tank, so i bought a magnetic algae scraper.

first time i try it out, all the fish went crazy. they would all go hide behind plantsat lighting speeds.
the scraper (inside) won;t move smoothly along with my movement from the outside. it would shutter.
as well as the scraper is scraping algae off the glass, the fish are not liking it.

any ways to make the scraper move smoothly?

make the out side of the tank damp so it will slide and clean it, its worked for my old tank and what i do with the new one. or some magnets have different strengths and i had one that was too strong and it didn't like to move along the glass.
hope it helps shang hi

perhaps the action will get smoother as the tank matures! can you put up a link to the one you have, or a pic?

so i kind of have a solution to the shuttering
i put a piece of the scrubber pad (the same pad as those scrubber on a stick) between the magnets, and that's enough to reduce the amount of shutter to not scare the fish

i would imagine that the cleaning ability of the scraper will be reduced by the pad. i think, i have only used my scraper twice in 20 months. the fish seem to deal with most cleaning things no problem. these things are something i would not recommend the use of very often. what i will say if they stutter and judder as you describe, i would bin it and get one that works!!!!!!!!!!! mine only cost a couple of quid, and works fine, on the rare occasions i use it.

i dont really get why people cant just use old credit cards like i do ...
it scrapes the glass clean

and you dont have to worry about scratches
