Hi everyone :good: I have set up a 7 gallon tank and was going to go with badis but I made a betta tank for my sister and I can't stop staring at that beautiful little fish so I decided to get heater and use the tank as a betta tank, just asking how many can I put in the tank,I was thinking only one male, but It would be cool to breed the fish so could I put a pair in there?

thanks

hi basically no it isnt advisable at all to house a male and female betta together in the same tank unless you divide it
scot :)

1 male OR 1 female. Any two Bettas together = dead betta

You could, however, devide it if it is a long 7 gal for 2 bettas, but make sure they can't see each other as they may jump.

Its 45 cm long, and If I devide them how would I get them to breed?,do I just remove the mesh or whatever I use when it is breeding season?

thanks for the responces :good:

Breeding season? You seriously need to research on Breeding Bettas :good:

7g thats a nice size tank you got any pics?
male and females cant be kept together unless your breeding them. 2 males cant be kept together or they will fight to death. females can be kept together but you need to have 1 or 3 if you just have to one will bully the other the more there are the more the agression is spread out so they wont get as hurt. if you want to breed them you need to get a 15g tank and condition them on live foods for 2 weeks then you add the female to the males 15g it a tub that she cant get out then after the males made a bubble nest and the females really eggy you can let her out but they need to be constiantly watched because things can turn nastie in seconds. once they have spawned take the female out but leave the male in untill the eggs hatch once they have take him out and feed the babies microworn or newly hatched brine shrimp. once the babys get a few month old the males and females need to be seprated to add all the females together to a 15+g tank then put all the males in seprate 2l+ tubs untill there big enough to sell but be carefull they can have upto 200 babies and if half of them turn male thats 100 2l+ tubs that all need to be filltered and have daily waterchanges.

@kizno thanks for the info as I said I think I'll just go for a male single betta and yea I have a few pictures http://www.flickr.com/photos/45496670@N02/4192674687/in/photostream/ just cycle this way >>> <<<that way are just a few cat pictures and fish pictures.

aly starh@ your right this is only my first day of research on breeding and slightly advansed betta topics

i saw that a min ago in the other topic nice tank i was thinking about doing that before but just thought it would get on my nerves keep having to replase the leaves when the rot. in a 7g depending on the male you might be able to have some small rasbora or endlers if not then most bettas are good with shrimp and pygmy corys that will be fine in there.

that sounds good, espescially seeing as I thought I would have to go speicieseis only,And about the dead leaves, they don't rot if you pick them in autumn, when they are dead and dark brown, but they do give off a healthy tannin haze

thanks
