Does anyone know anything about what fresh water fish can be found in Madagascar. And if they have made there way into the aquarium hobby.

There are some really cool freshwater fish in Madagascar but I dont know all that much about them.

One of my favourite groups of fish :) There are not loads that are readily available but if you can hunt them down its worth it. The most common is the Madagasgan Rainbow Fish and the Polleni Cichlid. Polleni can be a real mix in temperment but are generally extremely aggressive. You can sometimes get Pinstripe Damba which are a gorgeous fish and there are other species of Damba available too. I believe there are some mid-large catfish and killifish occasionally available too but proper hens teeth territory.

Because of how at risk these fish are in the wild they are nearly impossible to find though. Most of the species are properly on the brink of extinction so if you have a big tank - in the region of 150 gallons and you can find them they are definitely a noble cause to house :)

Check out this youtube channel to see some of the rarer families, Jim Cummings is a really extraordinary Madagascan Cichlid expert. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXKTV3u2o44r5oGWQBdFe0Q
