Mad About Some Advice

How is it opinionated? It's a fact that bettas are more or less solitary animals, male bettas have a tendency to fight with other males AND females. Just because a couple people have had success doesn't mean its something that should be done. While I agree that the personality of the individual fish is a factor, 9 times out of 10 one of the fish in the situation will get killed when placed together, plain and simple. It's not something that should ever be done, experiment or whatever.

well jaded12 if you take a good look at what i wrote i said in most cases, not all. and my betta could be trusted with them sense he is older and i had had him for a while.

I didn't even respond to what you wrote, tropical did

All i can say is i would probably try it if i wanted to,but i would have a spare 5 gallon on stand-by.It wouldn't be hard, they only need small tanks.

small tanks? as in how small? they should NOT be in anything under one gallon.

I don't see why you should be mad when it's wrong. Some people might have had okay experiences, but it's not only based on the betta, also the living conditions, in pet shops, many fish that would normally attack each other or chase each other don't because they are very stressed. I'm not saying that anyone that has had a good outcome keeps their tanks in bad condition, but sometimes if the fish is stressed it won't attack. I don't even see why someone would want to try it, as there is a great chance that they will attack. Even when breeding the male becomes agressive at first. IMO it's just wrong, I agree with Jaded, it shouldn't be done so end of story.

then why keep females together? if they could fight and kill each other, isn't it better to keep them by themselves since they're solitary animals?

opinionated as in "if you've had the fish in with other tankmates and you know how he is" fine. it's not a factual thing that every betta ever owned can only be by themselves so it's opinionated.
i'm done talking about this, i've made my point clear.

Actually yes I do feel that unless females have grown up together, are sisters or have a very gentle nature that they should be kept alone as well.

I could introduce my cat to my cockatiel.
She might kill the bird.
She might not.
If you want to put a male and a female together, they have a chance of killing each other, and they don't. It's all up to you; but, like cats and cockatiels, sometimes there are exceptions but most of the time the cat would kill the cockatiel.

Also its fact that females in general are more gentle natured then the males and not as unpredictable. Though there have been cases when females have been more nasty then the males.

Will admit to not reading this thread all the way through but shall give my own experience anyway.
A male and a female will end up fighting and possibly killing each other. It is very rare to find any that act otherwise. I've had trouble both ways when a pair are together for spawning reasons. I would NEVER have two males in together for any reason. Females live together very well! I've had a few girls that were especially aggressive but a big group soon sorts them out. One of my youngest girls lived alone for a few months after eating most of her siblings but I moved her in with the older girls and her attitude was soon sorted out by the group. And I KNOW they don't pick fights, bite or attack each other. The occasional chase is all that happens. At night they all gather together like a bunch of colourful sardines, in their floating plants, to sleep all entwined. If any of the old girls are struggling or reaching the end of their days (and I've had a few) the others will not pick on them or push them around. Rather they tend to be supportive. Something I hadn't expected but have seen time and again.
I will point out my girls live in a 44g tank alongside cories and petricolas. They are the only top dwellers and have an enormous (covering about two thirds of the surface) floating plant palace.
In short, given the right conditions, space and tlc they can be loving creatures despite their reputation.

did i say i would? no, i clearly stated i wouldn't. why do people put bettas in with other fish to take the chance? things will work out there fine sometimes, too. i see no difference. it's all a viewpoint.
No I wasn't talking to you. You need to think before you post. And no need for an explosion even if I was talking to you. I was talking about the topic in general. Notice how I did not mention your name or quote you?

the way it seemed, it seemed to be generally directed towards me so i defended myself. i really dont believe its against the law for me to do that, is it?

What they wrote didn't sound directed to you at all, in fact it was quite clearly directed to the original question.
