Lyretail Swordtail Fry! *2 Month Old Update, Pg 4*

Love the babies, They are sooooo cute anyways, they are definately growing, you can see they have more characteristics, like their tails and other fins are more defined, they are healthy babies

Day 21 pics!! Yay! They are getting soo big. I am happy to report that in 21 days I have lost only 3 fry. DOnt get me wrong, I feel terrible about them, but this being my first time really doing my research and trying to everything right, I was surprised thats all I lost. One was born with no bottom lip and couldnt eat, one was born without a back tail and couldnt swim, and the other was just very tiny, after a week he hadnt grown at all. Rip little ones.

So, here are the pics. They are getting too fast now so I had to net them up for pics.

Hehe, thanks guys Im still so anxious to see if any are going to be lyretails like their mom, I really hope so but its still too soon to tell.

So, Guppies Everywhere, how many do you want? 5, 10, 20? I gotta find homes for em all lol. Luckily though my LFS said they would take some, and my marine science teacher has a 40 gallon setup with 2 guppies, so he said he would take bunches for that tank as well. Yay!

How adorable, I so love babies. I have 31 platty fry at the moment from my redwag and sunset and I rescued 35 black, white and dalmation high fin Molly fry from my aunties tank.

Well fishRfriends it looks like your fish are growing healty and you are very lucky! all mine died? I don't know how? It seems that whenever I try to save and raise baby livebearers, they always don't make it? But when I leave them in the main tank with the parants, they usually grow up to adults with no problem? I think the next batch of fries i get, I'm gonna leave in the tank, hopefully not all will get eaten.

Awww Im so sorry!! Its so hard when they die I wish I could give you some advice, but honestly I did everything wrong lol. I had them set in a divider which they could get through into the main tank so I scooped them all up (boy did that take forever but with only three guppies in the tank none got eater) and put them in 2.5 mini bow which looked to small so I went and got the 5.5, put them in there with an un-bacterialiezed (if thats a word) sponge filter, and hoped for the best.

But, I guessed they liked it lol. Who knows.

Edit for new pics. They have SAND now! They are so happy lol. They were actually digging in it and just having a great time. I also stole some plants from my mom lol (live) which they are having a blast with. They rest on the leaves and pick at the roots for snacks. Heres a few:

And off the topic--can a thread have too many pics? Ive never not this before lol, so just wondering if I shouldnt keeps putting pics on this one thread (pretend thats a shrugging "i dunno" smiley )

What kind of sand is that may I ask? And were did you get it from? Just wondering cuz I think it looks great and I wanted to steal your idea. Babies are cuuutteee!

Thank you! Its actually just regular kids playsand from Toys R Us washed out really well. It looks great and settles very nicely.

That sand works great and looks just as good as normal sand

Cool, I actually happen to have some since I have some bearded dragons, its not from toys R Us but its the same washed and sifted childrens playsand, might have to try that. Is it really dusty though, and does it settle well?

Yeah, I think I will just leave the babies in the main tank next time. But yours is looking good so far! I hope they are all lyretails! love your tank. I've always wanted a sand tank, maybe I have to go visit Toys'R'Us now
