What are my options for lowering my current PH... other than rain water or an RO unit...

why do you need to lower the pH?
it is far better to have a stable pH than one tha is always fluctuating.

... I know the importants of a stable PH... am considering a pair of Dwarf Cichlids for another 20UKG... and have been told that my current PH of '8' is too high for this species... just seeing what my options are...

RO would be the best way to go, check out ro-man.

sedge peat from garden store- remove stringy bits run boiling water through it=aquarium peat. put in filter compartment with filter cotton either side or you will end up with brown tank
