My tank is currently cycling.. and i`m not sure what to do every problem i encounter some one seems to come up with some gizmo or gadget that will solve the problem...

i was reading about UV units in PFC and was wondering if there any cop or possibly an RO unit to clean the water?? (notentirely sure how theese things work< any hints would be apriciated)

or possibly a CO2 unit aswell....

and some new lighting a couple of t5 bulbs me thinks (as i only have one t5 and one normal one...

Help people i`m feeling rather swamped with where to go

Its according to what you want to do with your tank.

I wouldn't use an RO at all unless keeping something ultra delicate. It takes ALL contaminants out of the tap water....including electrolytes/minerals that will be needed by your fish. Its fine if you're using it for saltwater, though....as you can replace all that when you mix the salt with the water.

Carbon does clean the water though doesn't do as good a job and doesn't rid the water of free floating bacteria, parasites, etc....the way a RO unit would. Which brings me to the next comment.

The only way I'd use a UV sterilizer is if my tank water was heavily contaminated with something like green water algae or free floating parasites, etc.

Live plants take care of green water just fine, too....granted you have enough of them in your tank to suck out all the nutrients the algae was using.

i want a nice stable tank that nothings going to die in....

whick is why i was thinking of the UV as this aparently eliminates white spot and fungal infections.

and as all my plants seem to be dying.... i thought the CO2 may help

any other suggestions?

and on a side note how costly is CO2 to run? and is fireextinguisher CO@ suteable??? as i have access to a fir few of theese
