I am not really a beginner but it's a beginner type question and I've made a lot of mistakes in the past.

I am looking for easy to keep small fish for an unplanted 15gallon tank.
Something nice and fun, easily available.

I was thinking platies but I don't know if my tank is a bit small really. Guppies but I've heard they can be a bit "weak" from being over-bred (and would all males nip at each other). I had some pencilfish before which I loved but hard to get hold off.

Not sure about neons and other tetras?

I kept sparkling gouramis before which were lovely but I had territorial type issues I want to avoid

Not after a betta this time.

Any suggestions welcome

What are the dimensions of your tank, is your water hard or soft, and from how far away will you mostly be viewing it? Sand or gravel? Why unplanted?

Hard water (I don't have the test to measure exactly), gravel, unplanted because I have never succeeded with planted tanks and I want it as easy as possible. The footprint is that of a typical 10gal I think. It's at the end of the room so probably about 6-8ft away mostly.

Platies are fun and can be housed in a 15 gal. Be aware that they breed very easily and very frequently (about every 4-5 weeks) so it could quickly be overrun unless you get all males.
