Low Light Corals?

Oh, well that's troublesome. In general, glass lids are a bad idea in marine tanks. They keep heat in (a major difficulty in the summer), and lower gas exchange to create an environment with low O2 and high CO2 in the tank. A problem made worse by the poor carrying capacity of seawater for these gasses anyway.

With a 10g tank, it's tough to come up with cheap lighting for it because of the small dimensions. Just not that popular a size for good lighting. Most folks start off with a 10g, quickly realize there isn't much out there they can really do with it, and go find something bigger, or try a pre-made nano cube.

You could try something like this 96watt quad compact. Or you could consider two of these 18watt compact flourescents and run them side by side over your tank.

Dang...So they don't make 20" double fluroscent fixtures? I was browing on the web earlier today and I couldnt find much. I did find t5 lighting, (2) 18 watt bulbs, but they were only 18" long... Not bad for $54. I would assume those lights would melt the stupid plastic cover? I do have another tank, but in the same situation...Thats why I am aiming for the 29 biocube around xmas... I was just using this tank as a home for the reef lobster (Kept eating my fish) and maybe some other small inverts. I thought maybe some low light corals could live within those means... I guess I'll keep looking for lighting in the mean time though..

Just remembered a great site for "retrofitting" 10g light fixtures

ahsupply.com has some great compact flourescent retrofit kits, and some very good suggestions for DIY'ing them into a 10g enclosure. Should help you out a bunch :D
