I'm really LOVING having cichlids! Watching the kribensis dance with each other and watching their color changing is amazing! It's SUCH a difference from livebearers. These guys show personality and moods!

Hey now! My livebearers have personalities! They are hungry, full or preggo :p

But that is cool to know that cichlids are neat to watch and are full of interesting personality. I am in the process of setting up a malawi tank. :) Post some pics of your kribs if you can. I would love to take a peek at em.

My livebearers have personalities too! Hungry, full, preggo, or trying to get preggo  - I love them too, but cichlids are so different! I can watch them for hours. I'll get my digital camera out and post pictures this weekend!

Kribs are really pretty too. I am in the beginning stages of setting our tank up. got the tank (75g) and all the equipment, just a lot of san and rock cleaning and then the 6 week fishless cycle. It seems like forever, but I know in the end it will be worth it. I hear so many people talk about how wonderful cichlids are.

Oh and the other personality my livebearers show is fry-birth lol. about two to three times a month I have a large batch btween the 6 females and 3 males lol. I am thinking about rehoming the males now. I cannot keep up with them and their crazy libidos!

Well - I have two live bearer tanks and they used to keep the fry population in check themselves by eating most of them. I think they're so well fed they no longer eat the fry ( well the danios will if given the chance) so my tanks are getting overcrowded. It may seem cruel, but those fry that LFS won't tank are now going to the cichlid tank. They give them live food to hunt and it keeps my livebearer population in check. I do save particularly good colored fry though.

I cut back on feedings when I have a baby boom. They get hungry and hunt the babies. I did save five from my last batch, as they had unique colorings. That's not a bad idea though, as cruel as it seems, but adding them to the cichlid tank if the livebearers do not eat them. I removed some of the hidey holes in my livebearer tank to leave less hiding spaces. I have also been putting ads on craisglist as free to a good home. I just feel that once a month, chasing the fish with a net can be stressful on them.
