This is a Video of my recently acquired Anomalochromis Thomasi, a fish I kept about 25 years ago, and couldn't resist when I saw some in my LFS. I bought four and they quickly sorted themselves out into a pair and 2 others (probably both males)
I had them in a 2 ft tank I'd recently redone and after a few days of hiding as soon as I approached they got more confident and started coming out to eat. I was still in the process of landscaping the tank and I had to take everything out to fit the other stuff in as well. I did this then sat back to look at it and noticed the female being very aggressive, on closer inspection she had a clutch of eggs on a leaf that she was guarding, (which I'd removed from the tank and had sitting on the floor for about 20 mins) The two other males looked like they might come to a sticky end so I put them in my community tank where they seem happy.
Despite me removing her eggs the female and to some extent the male kept guarding them. They hatched out on Saturday and since then its been hide and seek. They have dug pits all over and kept moving the fry. At one point I'd given up and assumed they had eaten them, but 2 days later I spotted her moving them again. By this time they were starting to swim and she was constantly picking them up and spitting them back onto their hole. Now they are free swimming although the parent are still keeping them very close. I've been feeding them liquifry and micro worms using a turkey baster to drop the food in the right place.
Hopefully I can grow them all out. (there are about 25) then see if I can give them away.
